Our resident teacher, Khenpo Sangay Yeshi, first arrived in Victoria on Sunday, January 15, 2006.

Khenpo's name is more properly spelled Khenpo Sang-ngag Yeshe; pronounced Ken-po Song-Ngok Yey-Shey. He was born in 1957, in Zhemgang, south Bhutan. For generations, his family and the residents of that region have been practitioners in the Pema Lingpa lineage, a practice which continues today.

From the age of 12 to 32, young Sangay Yeshi received the traditional training of a Vajrayana Buddhist scholar, practitioner and teacher. He trained first at the Drugpa Kargyud Monastic School in Zhemgang, and later at the Nyingmapa Buddhist University of Namdroling, in Bylakuppe, India, At the age of 28, he received full ordination as a monk from H.H. Penor Rinpoche.

While at Namdroling, he met H. H. Gangteng Tulku Rinpoche. Faith grew in his heart for the dynamic young incarnation of Pema Lingpa from his homeland.

Upon completion of his studies, he returned to Bhutan as Lopon, or Senior Instructor, at the Monastic Colleges in Zhemgang and Mongar, and later at the Buddhist University at Gangteng Monastery. After completing his three year retreat at Kunzang Choeling Hermitage near Gangteng in June 2000, he held the post as Lopon at Orgyen Thegchog Choeling Monastic College near Trongsa, central Bhutan.

Khenpo has received empowerments, transmissions and teachings from many realized masters, including H.H. Dilgo Khyentse Rinpoche, H.H. Penor Rinoche, Dodrupchen Rinpoche, Khamtrul Rinpoche and his root guru, H. H. Gangteng Tulku Rinpoche, from whom he received the entirety of the Pema Lingpa lineage.

Khenpo Sang-ngag Yeshe is now the resident teacher of Pema Lingpa Treasure Vajrayana Centre in Victoria, BC, where he gives formal Buddhist teachings, meditation instruction, guidance and advice to students of H.H. Gangteng Tulku Rinpoche and all those interested in studying and practicing Buddhist meditation.
